14 Essentials to Pack for the Honeymoon

Hmmm! Wedding chaos is over and now it’s time for the much-anticipated Honeymoon.

But before you jump onto that plane you need some guidelines. This piece is to give you 14 pointers to the essentials you need for your Honeymoon. We all know that failure to prepare is preparing to fail. We all want a blissful start and why not begin with what is within our control. Packing.

I know of a couple who forgot their travel documents in one of the hired cars. Imagine the dismay, stress, and inconvenience they went through to first start tracing the car, to get those documents; not forgetting they were already late for check in at the airport. We do not want this for you.

1. Travel Documents

You are not going to board that plane without your passport, air ticket, Yellow Fever card (for countries that need this), and Visa where applicable. Of essence may also be a travel Itinerary and travel Insurance. These will make it possible for you to enter and exit the respective country destination.

If not leaving the country, I would suggest that a travel itinerary will be great as you will feel guided and reduce frustrations for you honeymooners.

While on it, please do not forget that you need your wallet healthy or at least prepared. Ensure you have cash/credit/debit cards to make your life easy.

Tip: Pack these items and keep them with the last person you will be seeing before your take off.

2. Travel Comforts

In this pack you need a travel pillow, a shawl or fleece blanket, eye masks, headphones (if you need to enjoy some music or block external noise). You want to enjoy the journey so why not make it as comfortable as you possibly can. These few items may just be the charm.

3. Her Bag

Girls always need a girly bag to keep a few things for “emergencies” .  This pack should at least have Sanitary Towels/Tampons, hair dryer, painkillers, shower cap, some moisturizer, facial cleanser, and a lip balm. In this pack you can also add any little things that will prepare you for any emergencies as a girl.

4. His Bag

He is always less complex. His bag should have Shaving cream, Shavers, beard comb and oil, Boxers, Socks (a lot of Socks).

5. Footwear

Have you had a pinching toe or got bruises at the back of the ankle because the shoes were so tight? I assure you; you do not want such an experience. It can really hurt; you will be stopped in your tracks.  What do you then need? Some pair of comfortable, well-fitting shoes. For the ladies you want to ensure you have a pair of sandals, some light closed shoes, and perhaps a pair of heels for that surprise Dinner. For the Mr. Some comfortable closed shoes or sneakers will do. A pair of open shoes will not be bad idea either. You just want to enjoy each other’s company and go wherever without limitations. Do not forget Bathroom slippers.

6. Clothing & Accessories for Her

The number and type of clothing should be determined by the weather and duration of stay. These are essential factors to consider but be sure to carry back up in case of drastic weather changes. If you’re going to a relatively warm place, do not neglect a few warm clothing for it can decide to get cold. Ensure you have a smart packing of dresses, cover ups, something elegant, not forgetting your comfort and practicality. Do not forget to accessorize in style; some Sunglasses, jewelry, Scarf, Sun Hat will do the magic.

7. Clothing & Accessories for Him

Same goes for The Mr. Have some shirts, shorts, pants depending on your personal style but think of comfort as well. Warm clothing is a Must for that surprise rainy, windy, and cold day. So, pack some Jackets, sweaters, and scarfs. You too need to accessorize and thinking through what works for you is great. A few items you could add on are Caps, belts, perhaps a watch.

8.  Sleep Wear / Lingerie

It is a honeymoon, so you need to think about your comfort and practicality of the night/s. So please pack your sleepwear accordingly.

9. Basic Toiletries & Skincare

It is obvious that you want to keep impressing each other and part of this is staying fresh all day long; and beyond this you want to feel confident and comfortable around each other. DO NOT forget therefore, to pack your toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, some perfume/cologne. If there are other toiletries you feel you need, throw those in that pack as well.

You will need some skin care products to take care of both your skins. This is essentially because you could be experiencing a far different weather from the norm and the last thing you want to happen is to have a skin breakout. This pack can include Sunscreen/Sunblock, face wash, moisturizer, facial scrub etcetera.

10. Tech Essentials

You want to capture every moment, creating memories for yourselves and for sharing with your loved ones. You will need a Camera, well charged at that. Though we are advanced in technology, and we mostly carry phones that take good shots, you still want to be safe. So just carry that camara and in addition to this carry its batteries and charger, portable chargers or powers banks, USB cables.

11. Adventure/Excursion Items

Since you have all the time to yourselves and may stay indoors most of the time, a little adventure will not hurt. In this category, please pack your hiking boots, binoculus, camping bag, if necessary, water bottles, lighters, and any item that will make your adventure, adventurous.

12. Meds

For this pack you will need your prescription drugs if you are on any.  Of importance to also carry are painkillers, antiacids, antihistamines, motion sickness medication, and insect repellants. These will come in handy when there’s that unexpected headache, or unwanted guest like mosquitoes.

13. A Special Gift for Each Other

You are on honeymoon, and this is the most important person in your life and heart right now. You want them to feel just a little more special. Pick a surprise gift for each other. It just adds a little flavor to your time together.

14. Extras

Its quite awesome when you are overprepared than underprepared. So under this list just pack anything that may sound most irrelevant to the ears but you know can come in handy. For example, get a torch and some batteries, a dirty laundry bag, to pack your dirty laundry. Fill these extras you will not regret it.

TIP: Do not delegate your packing to any one and remember to leave space for souvenirs and collectibles you may acquire on your various destination points.

Let’s get packing!
