Purchasing the Wedding Gown

To look like a princess on your wedding day is probably every girl’s dream. Walking down the aisle hand in hand with your parents or the significant parent figure in your life is a moment that could send butterflies in every bride’s stomach, and the anticipation of that moment creates excitement with same intensity.

While everyone is waiting to see you walk down the aisle, we can almost guarantee that it is not just you they are waiting to see; buy you in the gown! Everyone is eager to see the gown you are dressed in as you gracefully take your slow but sure steps along the aisle.

It is not just a matter of making a statement but really flowing in the rhythm of that once in a lifetime moment. Walking down the aisle while trying to suppress every feeling of anxiety, as you secretly hush the wrecking nerves in the silent battle to exude only confidence; all you want to be seen is the beautiful smile underneath your veil, and yourself wrapped in the gown of your dreams.

How you get that gown is what we want to discuss, because it is very important. The Gown!

How do you choose your gown?

1.What Suits Your Body

It is absolutely necessary that no matter how beautiful a gown is, if it will not suit your body type then you must just leave it. It is best to understand your body and what will accentuate your features as opposed to either blowing it out of proportion or you are being swallowed up in the gown. Most vendors will be able to advise when you go shopping for one and give you what can best suit you.

2.Do your research

Look for inspiration in bridal magazines, online wedding galleries, and social media to find styles that appeal to you. Once you have an idea of what you like, research different wedding gown styles and silhouettes to determine what looks best on your body type and complements your personal style as well. This will help you narrow down your options when you start shopping.

3.Set a budget

Before you start shopping, set a budget for your wedding dress and stick to it. Remember to factor in the cost of accessories and probable alterations, as these can add up quickly and within no time you have spent way above what was necessary or planned for. Be honest with your stylist about your budget so they can help you find dresses that fit within your price range.

4.Schedule appointments

Once you have an idea of what you’re looking for, schedule appointments at bridal boutiques and try on a variety of dresses to find the perfect one. Don’t be afraid to try on styles that you wouldn’t normally consider – you might be surprised by what looks good on you! It’s also a good idea to schedule appointments at multiple boutiques so you can compare styles and prices. Scheduling also helps you manage your time and energy so that you avoid unnecessary pressure and stress.

5.Consider pre-owned or rental dresses

If you’re on a tight budget, consider purchasing a pre-owned wedding dress or renting a dress to save money. There are many websites and consignment shops that specialize in pre-owned wedding dresses, and you can often find designer dresses at a fraction of the original cost. There are many bridal shops that specialize in wedding gowns hire. Check out these wedding gown stores.

6.Bring a trusted friend or family member

Take someone you trust with you to your dress appointments for a second opinion and support. Choose someone who knows your personal style and will give you honest feedback. However, be careful not to bring many people as too many opinions can be overwhelming and make it harder to make a decision; you know what they say about too many cooks!

7.Think about the wedding venue and theme

When choosing your dress, think about the wedding venue and theme to ensure your dress matches the overall aesthetic. For example, a formal ball gown might not be the best choice for a beach wedding. If you’re having a themed wedding, consider incorporating elements of the theme into your dress, such as a floral crown for a bohemian wedding, a light fabric gown for a beach wedding and so forth.

8.Don’t be afraid to ask for alterations

Even if you find a dress that you love, it may not fit perfectly right off the rack. Don’t be afraid to ask for alterations to ensure the dress fits you like a glove. A good seamstress can make minor adjustments to the length, waist, or bust line to make the dress flatter your figure. Isn’t that what every bride is looking for? I would think yes.

9.Consider the fabric

Pay attention to the fabric of the dress to ensure it is comfortable and easy to move in. If you’re getting married in the hot seasons, a heavy satin gown might be too hot and uncomfortable. Look for lightweight fabrics like chiffon or tulle that will keep you cool and comfortable.

10.Think about accessories

Consider accessories such as the veil, jewelry, and shoes that will complement your dress. Make sure the accessories you choose don’t overwhelm the dress – for example, if you have a heavily beaded gown, choose simple jewelry and a plain veil. If on the other hand your gown is simply plain, you can choose to have a more elaborate set of complementing jewelry.

11.Leave enough time for alterations

Finally, make sure you leave enough time between purchasing your dress and the wedding day for any necessary alterations and fittings. You may need multiple fittings to ensure the dress fits perfectly, so be sure to schedule these appointments well in advance of the wedding day. This will help ensure that you look and feel your best on your big day.

With these in mind, we wish nothing but the very best as you go shopping.
